We Can Do Hard Things

Screen Shot 2018-09-09 at 3.08.35 PMSeptembers are often full of new and exciting moments within our school walls, as I can attest to first-hand.  After 15+ years as a classroom teacher, I have taken on a new role as Shutesbury Elementary School’s Reading Specialist/Coach.  Even with all the researching, discussing, planning, and practicing I’ve done in preparation for this challenge, “new” still sometimes feels hard.  This experience has been a great reminder of what our students often confront as we ask them to push past their comfort zones and continuously grow.  I feel so grateful to be part of a school community that embraces risk-taking and mistake-making as an integral part of learning (for both students and teachers!).  I’ve hung up a poster outside my new classroom area that states, “We can do hard things” to remind myself that whether we are 5 or 45 years old, “new” can be scary but worth the risk.  Here’s to an amazing school year full of wonder and growth for everyone!
